FLASH KICK ASS

When Silver and Foxy go out for an innocent picnic the whole world went and blacked out for two minutes and seventeen seconds…and they  only went and saw their own bloody futures! Needless to say, the interwebs sexiest femme fatales futures were full of incredibly sexy, high kicking, fast kicking, spin kicking, tight dress kicking ass kicking. But for one of them, the future was also eerily dark!!

I have many things to write about this film, not only because – I think – it’s perhaps the best of the recent KAK movies, but it contains many remarkable points.

The director managed to balance perfectly the story and the action. This time the plot is unique and interesting – which is good after many „the Kandygirls must sneak into the enemy HQ” style storyline -, but it doesn’t stand in the way of the action.

Another great change was the selection of Kandygirls. Usually, we see the same teams working together (Bambi + Hi-Kix, Mata + Jet etc.) which is not bad, but it’s even better if we get to see some unusual couples. It keeps the viewers guessing and intrigued, and offers a nice mix of chemistry between the different girls. This movie – with Foxy and Silver – is a shining example of this. (And what could come from a Red + Mata or Sydney + Bambi combination… yikes!)

Furthermore, I feel this movie is an important breakthrough for the two featured Kandygirl, too.

Restrospectively, perhaps it’s not unfair to say that Foxy’s debut in The Spy Who Loved Kick Ass was quite underwhelming. It wasn’t her fault, though – she didn’t get any lines (well, only one), her action sequences were short and overshadowed by two more experienced and celebrated Kandygirl (Bambi + Hi-Kix) who got most of the action.

I’m really glad that she got another chance and this time, Foxy truly shines. Her role is funny and convincing – she behaves much more naturally than last time – and her action scenes are amazing. She shows she can do everythng, she can kick, punch, knee, and pulls off some truly amazing stunts – the kick she delivers while lying on the ground (with her unlucky opponent) is simply fantastic. This time, Foxy leaves no doubts, she IS a full-fledged Kandygirl.

Just as important is the change in Silver. Although she has appeared in many movies, she has the beauty and skill, but now I can finally say that I wasn’t entirely satisfied with her because she was always so serious. The best thing in Kandygirls is that they can not only beat senseless any overconfident men, but also keep smiling, teasing and clearly enjoying themselves while doing it.

There’s a completely new Silver in this film, and I like her immensely better. She delivers her lines – and punches – smiling and I adore how she’s toying with her opponent while destroying him. That little scene where she said „Hey Mister!” before dishing out those beautiful repeated headkicks (my all-time favorite move, btw) was the highlight of the movie for me.

The music in the movie is new again, and it’s great, I remember the time where almost every KAK movie used the same one or two tunes. I don’t know if it’s possible, but some new punching/kicking sound effects would be nice, too – sometimes it’s a little tiring that (almost) every attack uses the exact same sound.

I have to address another new addition: namely, in this movie, a Kandygirl (or probably a soon-to-turn-evil Kandygirl) actually kills a man. I know I’m very alone with this opinion, but
it just doesn’t feel right. I’m completely enthusiastic of any movie where a girl beats, kicks, humiliates any number of men, but when she actually takes someone’s life, it’s no fun anymore. It’s too… final. Ruins the game, the playful, teasing atmosphere. Much-much better if she just beats them, destroys their ego, leaves them humiliated and dominated by her so they have no choice but to accept her superiority. Another reason while I loved – and love – KAK movies is though the girls dished out severe punishment, but they didn’t go over the top, didn’t torture, kill tc. their foes. I hope it’ll stay that way and killing moves would be used sparingly or restricted exclusively to „Bad Ass” girls.

Still, I have to say that it’s a fantastic movie, and perhaps the most unique and important one in a long time. A must.

    Kudos!

Graves, I agree with most of what you said, except for the killing part. I felt that this website was lacking that feature big time. I think the context of these stories is to put you in a situation where a guard or enemy does have to be taken out effectively. This movie finally takes the necessary step to succeed to the next level, and that is providing a more realistic but fun perspective of what these girls can and should do.

  • Zola

I have to agree with Friend, the killing part was just amazing and added the required realistic to the fight. I wish more of such ending (better with a scissor hold) are added to the clips.
